The era of distributed work is here, and it’s full of new opportunities. Companies can tap into a global talent pool, employees can enjoy the benefits of working from anywhere, and people from underrepresented communities all over the world can access jobs that were once limited to a small number of locations.

To succeed in this new era of work though, remote workers and people leaders need to develop a new set of skills. That’s why we’ve launched a brand new version of Oyster Academy—our educational program designed to equip people with the skills needed to thrive in the distributed era.

Oyster Academy now includes free, self-paced courses for remote workers and people leaders, hosted on online course platform Thinkific. Each course combines the real-world experience of Oyster’s instructors, evidence-based education theories, and established industry best-practices in an engaging, user-friendly learning environment.

Preparing for Distributed Work is an introductory course for remote job seekers and workers who are looking to understand the building blocks of distributed work. Participants will learn how to use distributed terminology in day-to-day conversations, strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance, how to use digital tools that facilitate distributed work, and more. The course takes between three and five hours to finish, and upon completion, participants will receive a certificate that can be added to their LinkedIn profiles and resumes to highlight their knowledge of distributed work.

Creating a Culture for Distributed Work is built for HR leaders and people managers who want to set up their teams for success in the remote-first era. The course will teach participants  ways to drive employee engagement, best practices for creating a culture of wellbeing, the fundamentals of distributed communication, and other critical skills for driving employee happiness and retention in a distributed workplace. Similar to Preparing for Distributed Work, the course takes up to five hours to complete, and successful participants will receive a certificate of achievement when they finish.

Our mission at Oyster is to create a more equal world by making it possible for companies everywhere to hire people anywhere. With the launch of the new and improved Oyster Academy, we’re taking a further step towards that mission by helping workers and people leaders all over the world prepare for the new world of work.
