Oyster Team

At Oyster, we’re changing the way the world works—one brilliant remote hire at a time. So today, we’re excited to announce the latest additions to our leadership team: our newly appointed President, Ellen Silver, and our first Chief People Officer, Mark Frein.

Ellen is joining the Oyster team after 10 years at Facebook, where she was VP of Trust and Safety Operations and oversaw operational services in support of the growth of the company’s global user base to over 2.8 billion people. In her role as President at Oyster, she’ll be responsible for integrating and scaling our Product, Engineering, Operations, and Legal functions, driving strategic planning, and coordinating key parts of our social mission.

Like Ellen, Mark also brings vast operational experience to Oyster, having served as Chief People Officer at Return Path, InVision, and Lambda School. As our first Chief People Officer, he’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our organizational structure, recruitment strategy, and culture as we strive to deliver an exceptional employee experience to every member of our fully distributed team.

Both Ellen and Mark share a passion for Oyster’s mission to create a world of equal opportunities, and we can’t wait to work with them as we help more companies and people access the benefits of distributed work.

FAQs

What is an EOR?

An employer of record (EOR) is an entity that legally employs workers on behalf of another business. An EOR takes full responsibility for all aspects of employment, including compliance, payroll, taxes, and benefits.

Is it hard to switch from another EOR provider?

Switching from one employer of record partner to another can be seamless with the right planning and support.

Oyster offers a dedicated team of specialists who guide you through the process compliantly, while keeping your team members’ experience at the center.

What is an EOR in payroll?

An employer of record is an entity that employs workers on behalf of another business. An EOR partner takes on the responsibility of many HR services, including payroll administration. When you work with an EOR partner to employ global talent, you provide funds to the EOR and they will handle salary disbursement, ensuring proper tax withholding, social security contributions, and retirement account funding.
